For Parents

Think about what sort of man you want your son to be in 20 years.  Now ask yourself what are you doing to help him become that man?  By having your son join scouting, you'll take a big step in preparing him for the future.  In scouting, he will learn skills such as first aid, knot tying, problem solving, leadership that he will use for the rest of his life.  He will explore different subject areas that can lead to a career or lifelong hobby.  He will learn values embodied in the Scout Oath and Law:

Scout Oath:
 On my honor I will do my best
To do my duty to God and my country
and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong,
mentally awake, and morally straight.

Scout Law
:
A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful,
friendly, courteous, Kind, Obedient,
cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.

Many boys are already involved in other activities such as sports.  Scouting can still be a part of their lives.  Troop 73 meets on Sunday afternoon at 3PM when most practices, games, activities are already over.  Also in scouting your son progresses at his pace.  Some scouts will charge head long and fully immerse themselves in scouting; others will work scouting around sport seasons or school activities.  Except for the requirement to make Eagle scout rank by the 18th birthday, there are no deadlines.
