Cub Scouting is a Family Activity

Families are the basis of our society. In the family, children learn about love, values, and social interactions. Family is vital to the future of our communities and our nation. The Boy Scouts of America has a great interest in the strength of the family and therefore Cub Scouting is a family program. It gives families an opportunity to spend quality time together participating in various activities and events. Family involvement is vital to Cub Scouting’s success.

With that said, parents often wonder exactly how they can help. Well, you're in luck! A list has been put together to help get you off to a good start!
  • Encourage your son to participate in Den Meetings, Pack meetings and other events.
  • Work with your Scout to complete rank advancement requirements as well as other badges and awards. Many requirements can only be done at home or with an adult partner. Try to be available for him when he needs you.
  • Return information forms and event fees in a timely manner.
  • Support your Den Leader by helping with meetings and outings however you can.
  • Do your part in Pack fund-raising activities.
  • Speak up and share your ideas and talents to improve the den and Pack.
  • Step up into leadership, if needed.
    • Den Leader or Assistant Den Leader
    • Committee Member
    • Cubmaster or Assistant Cubmaster
  • Assist in the recruitment of new boys to the Pack. Being a positive advocate for scouting when given the opportunity at other community functions, school meetings, and talks with neighbors, etc.

Pack 802 will provide your son with a Pack t-shirt and handbook. Although not required, we do recommend the Cub Scout Short-Sleeve Shirt for Tigers, Wolves, and Bears or the Boy Scout Short-Sleeve Shirt for Webelos to be worn to Pack Awards and other Events! Also, recommend is the Cub Scout Belt or Boy Scout Belt (for Webelos) to show off the belt loops your Scout has earned!

The Council Patch is placed on the left shoulder just below the shoulder seem.
The Unit Numbers 802 are centered below the Council Patch.
The World Scout Emblem Crest is placed about 1.5 inches from the top of pocket.
More details on patch placement can be found here.

But please don't feel like you HAVE to go out and buy a uniform. They are by no means required! Also, please don't feel like you have to break the bank to purchase these items either! Many parents have found deals by shopping at thrift stores and/or eBay! However, if you wish to purchase new, there are 2 ways to purchase from the BSA. You can go to our local Scout Shop or shop online!
